NIFTY INDEX DAILY REPORT

Market sentiment turned cautious as the Nifty 50 extended its downward trend, amid surging crude oil prices above $91 a barrel amid escalating US-Iran geopolitical friction. The index started off the day at 24,082 and remained under pressure throughout the session, breaking below 24,100 to hit an intraday low around 24,013. Market sectors diverged sharply, heavyweights in banking, IT, and pharmaceuticals dragged the index down, the latter further weighed down by US tariff concerns on generic pharmaceuticals. Conversely, strong Q1 FY27 earnings from companies like Bajaj Auto bolstered the auto and consumer goods sectors, providing a cushion to the index. Ultimately, the wider market stayed hesitant as high energy import costs and weakness in INR restricted gains.

Bank Nifty experienced selling pressure, extending its recent retreat as heavyweights in the sector weighed heavily on the index. Index started the day at 57,835 mark, the banking index faced persistent pressure, breaking below key support levels to hit an intraday low near 56,970 before settling around 57,126, down by 1.23% for the day. The decline was largely driven by continued weakness in private lenders, particularly HDFC Bank, which faced extended pressure following compressed net interest margins in its Q1 FY27 results, alongside profit-booking in public sector peers like State Bank of India. Rising crude oil prices and global macro uncertainty further dampened risk appetite across rate-sensitive financial stocks, although relative resilience in select names like ICICI Bank helped cushion a steeper downside.

Nifty Realty index faced a sell-off to become one of the market’s weakest-performing sectors. Realty sector opened the session at 925.65, but later in the day realty  slid downward to test an intraday low of 899.15, eventually closing near 903, a single-session decline of 2.63%. This sharp pullback was largely driven by macro headwinds, as global crude oil surging past $91 a barrel getting back fresh inflation fears and drove up bond yields. The real estate sector’s sensitivity to interest rates and credit conditions, fears of higher borrowing costs triggered widespread profit-booking across major developers thus weighing heavily on the index.

Nifty IT index continued to trade under pressure, extending its recent slide for the third consecutive trading session as investor sentiment across software and technology services remained subdued. Heavyweight frontrunners, most notably Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), dragged the sector lower, extending losses into a third consecutive session amidst fading post-Q1 FY27 results and cautious growth projections.  Nifty IT stayed restricted under resistance near 29,325 amid rising global crude oil prices, and foreign institutional selling capped potential upside. Consequently, the IT benchmark underperformed relative to defensive domestic pockets, maintaining a bearish tilt throughout the trading day.

NIFTY DAILY CHART

The Nifty fell below the mark of 24,000. Though, index rose to the high 24,166, but later succumbed to the geopolitical tension and fell below the mark of 24,000. Thus, if the index fails to rise above the mark of 24,000, it may again fall to the mark of 23,800. Strength in the index can only be witnessed if, index reaches above the mark of 24,100.
