NIFTY INDEX DAILY REPORT
The Nifty 50 experienced a muted but positive trading session. The benchmark index kicked off the day with a soft upward gap at 24,085.85, up from the prior close of 24,052.05. Early momentum was fueled largely by a strong rally in both private and state-owned banking equities, pushing the index to its highest daily point of 24,220.35. However, these early gains were quickly checked amid ongoing macroeconomic pressures, including sticky inflation and Brent crude stubbornly holding near $86 a barrel. A wave of selling pulled the index down to an intraday bottom of 24,010.55 before a final-hour rebound cushioned the impact. The day’s price action underscored a highly defensive market mood.
The Nifty Bank index delivered a resilient performance. The index began the day on the front foot, opening higher at 57,643.75 against its previous finish of 57,462.30. Optimism ahead of the upcoming corporate earnings season sparked a wave of early buying, with major public and private sector lenders driving the index to an intra day high of 58,148.80. This upward trajectory was later tempered by profit-taking and looming anxieties surrounding high global oil prices, which dragged the index down to an intraday low of 57,610.00. Despite these headwinds, banking stocks showed strength, comfortably outperforming weaker sectors like technology and metals. By the closing bell, the Nifty Bank settled at 57,757.85, with a gain of 295.55 points.
Nifty Pharma index sustained its upward momentum. Reflecting ongoing investor interest, the healthcare gauge started the day with a mild gap-up at 26,027.75, building on its previous close of 25,907.10. Initial buying pushed the index to a daily high of 26,101.65. Even as swings in the wider market and selective profit-booking across other sectors trimmed some of these initial gains, the pharma sector’s defensive appeal shielded it from steep declines. After briefly sliding to an intraday low of 25,952.15, the index recovered to finish in positive territory at 26,011.40, securing a net gain of 104.30 points, or 0.40%.
Nifty FMCG continued its downward trend amid softening Indian rupee and rising raw material expenses. The defensive index started the session completely flat, matching its previous close at 48,524.95, but quickly failed to find any upward traction. Growing inflation anxieties and active profit extraction heavily pressured major sector giants. Consumer tracked down to an intraday low of 48,363.55, ultimately wrapping up the session near its bottom with a loss of 161.40 points, or 0.33%. This weak showing underscored the margin squeeze currently facing consumer companies, as rising oil prices drive up packaging and transportation overheads, largely neutralizing the sector’s usual safe-haven appeal.
NIFTY DAILY CHART
The Nifty, amid geopolitical tension, fell to the low of 24,010.50, but managed to settle just above the psychological level of 24,000 at 24052.25. Thus, if the index fails to maintain itself above the mark of 24,000, then the index would further weaken towards the level of 23,800. If the index manages to sustain above the mark of 24,000, then it can again touch the level of 24,250. Only breach of 24,250, would make Nifty stronger, else it it will continue to hover with 24000-24250.
