NIFTY INDEX DAILY REPORT

Nifty 50 retreated into negative territory down by -0.44% to settle at 22,622.70. Risk appetite waned significantly as persistent foreign institutional selling, paired with Brent crude trading firm near the $106/bbl mark, stoked fresh concern surrounding imported inflation and fiscal pressure. The downside in the index was aggravated profit booking across financial services, healthcare, and consumer durable names, most notably in Bajaj Finance and HDFC Life, which blunted the post-earnings resilience displayed by IT majors TCS and Infosys. Compounded by broad-based weakness across mid- and small-cap segments and a tick-up in India VIX toward 14.54, the index exhibited clear signs of distribution below the crucial 22,750 resistance hurdle.

Nifty Bank failed to hold above the psychological support level of 55,500, giving up momentum and finishing lower to pause the preceding session’s 563 point gain. Heavy call additions across the 55,500 and 56,000 strikes created a formidable ceiling throughout the day, while relentless by FII’s in the private banking stalwarts like HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank completely eclipsed modest advances seen in public sector peers such as IDBI Bank and Canara Bank. Compounded by external headwinds, most notably Brent crude stubbornly holding above $106 per barrel alongside elevated sovereign bond yields, investors actively trimmed exposure to rate-sensitive lenders, subjecting the banking gauge to steady distribution and dragging it down to test the crucial 55,000–55,250 support band.

The Nifty FMCG sector held its ground and gained 1.21% to settle at 45,271.70, consolidating within a narrow band as defensive portfolio shifts helped absorb weakness in the broader market. Even as relentless institutional dumping and aggressive unwinding in financials and autos pulled the benchmarks lower, consumer staples benefited from festive channel checks and resilient volume trends in index bellwethers ITC and Hindustan Unilever. Upside moves, however, were kept firmly in check by input cost pressures, with crude trading above the mark of $106 and rising wholesale food prices threatening gross margins alongside freight and packaging expenses. In effect, the FMCG pack concluded the session with gain of 540 points.

NIFTY DAILY CHART

The Nifty50 traded with negative bias and plunged by 0.44% settled the day at the mark of 22,622.70. RSI continued to move in the normal zone from the oversold zone to the mark of 41.66. Only sustained trading above the 22,500 level could push the index to 22,800 else, the index seems to be in a prolonged weak zone. But if the index falls below 22,250 could make the index weaker towards the mark 22,000.

Equity Market Technical Analysis Snapshot: Oct 14th, 2026

NIFTY50:

Nifty opened around 22,715.75 and initially moved higher to an intraday high of 22,757.95 before trading sideways during the first half of the session. However, selling pressure intensified in the second half, pushing the index below the important support level of 22,600 and down to an intraday low of 22,558.95. Nifty subsequently recovered from lower levels and settled around 22,622.70, registering an overall decline of 0.44%. The trend remains sideways to bullish, with resistance placed at 22,850 and 23,050, while support is seen at 22,600 and 22,400. The index continues to trade below its 11-DMA, 30-DMA, and 200-DMA, indicating that the broader technical structure remains weak despite the recent recovery. RSI at 41.66 reflects subdued momentum. Sustaining above 22,600 could support further consolidation and recovery, while a decisive break below 22,400 may trigger renewed selling pressure.

BANKNIFTY:

Bank Nifty opened around 55,406.70 and initially advanced to an intraday high of 55,644.70 but failed to sustain at higher levels. The index subsequently witnessed selling pressure and declined to an intraday low of 55,168.20, briefly moving below the important support level of 55,200. However, it recovered from lower levels and settled around 55,316, registering an overall decline of 0.30%. The trend remains sideways to bullish, with resistance placed at 55,850 and 56,250, while support is seen at 55,200 and 55,000. The index continues to trade above its 11-DMA but remains below its 30-DMA and 200-DMA, indicating improving short-term momentum within a weak broader technical structure. RSI at 46.71 reflects moderate but subdued momentum. Sustaining above 55,200 could support a recovery towards 55,850, while a decisive break below 55,000 may weaken the short-term outlook.

NIFTY MID SELECT:

Nifty Mid Select opened around 13,757.75 and initially declined to an intraday low of 13,682.10 before moving sideways and gradually recovering. The index touched an intraday high of 13,805.35 and settled around 13,773.15, registering a marginal gain of 0.08%. The trend remains sideways to bullish, with resistance placed at 13,850 and 14,000, while support is seen at 13,700 and 13,600. The index is trading above its 11-DMA but remains below its 30-DMA and 200-DMA, suggesting an improvement in short-term momentum while the broader technical structure remains weak. RSI at 41.44 indicates that momentum is yet to strengthen decisively. A sustained move above 13,850 could support further upside, while a break below 13,700 may lead to renewed selling pressure.

NIFTY IT:

Nifty IT opened gap-up around 29,937.50 and traded largely sideways throughout the session before settling higher at 30,171.00, registering an overall gain of 1.14%. The overall trend remains bullish, supported by the index’s positive price structure and continued strength in the short-term trend. Support is placed at 29,700 and 29,150, while resistance is seen at 30,600 and 31,016, with the latter corresponding to the 200-DMA. The index continues to trade above its 11-DMA and 30-DMA but remains below its 200-DMA, indicating a positive short-term trend while the longer-term trend requires confirmation. RSI at 63.15 reflects strong bullish momentum. A sustained move above 30,600 could open the way for a test of the 200-DMA near 31,016, while a decline below 29,700 may invite profit booking.
