An AMO is a type of order which is placed by the investor when the market session is closed. This order gets placed on the exchange at the opening of the next market session. Note: Timing to place an AMO is between 5:00 pm and 9:00 am for NSE, NFO and Currency segments.

After-market orders for commodity can be placed anytime during the day, orders will be sent to the exchange at 9:00 AM (MCX opening). So if you place an after market order at 8:59 it will get sent today and if you place it at 9:01 AM it'll get sent tomorrow

AMO is for those customers who are busy during market hours but wish to participate. In post market hours trading, one need not actively track the price movements of a stock during market hours. You can plan your orders at leisure after doing research before the market opens the next trading day.
