NIFTY INDEX DAILY REPORT
Nifty 50 gave up its advance and tumbled sharply into the close to settle the session at the mark of 22,316.85, down by 0.90%. Downward pressure on the index was amid persistent overseas fund outflows, as foreign institutional investors continued to offload positions into market upticks. Heavyweights in the FMCG and technology spaces bore the brunt of the downturn, with names like HUL, ITC, and Tech Mahindra leading the decline, further compounded by sustained selling in Reliance Industries. Consequently, the index breached critical support levels to settle within the 22,350–22,390 band, shedding roughly 0.9%. Modest resilience in select counters such as Kotak Mahindra Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Bharat Electronics proved insufficient to stem the retreat, leaving broader sentiment guarded amid unpredictable crude prices and the onset of the second-quarter earnings cycle.
Nifty Bank failed to sustain its momentum, retreating sharply from a day’s high of 55,350.15 to close down by roughly 0.61% and slipping to settle at 54,918. The Banking Index deteriorated as sovereign yields touched multi-year peaks, stoking fears over treasury mark-to-market losses while systemic liquidity contracted further under the central bank’s currency and open market interventions. The selloff was broad-based across both state-run and leading private institutions. Kotak Mahindra Bank stopped the downward trend with marginal gains, its standalone strength failed to neutralize the pervasive drag across financial counters, wrapping up the session on a decidedly cautious note.
Nifty Pharma index held its ground as a defensive sector, fluctuating around the 25,960–26,020 band compared to its prior settlement of 25,962.05. Nifty pharma drew targeted safe-haven flows. The gauge moved within an intraday corridor of roughly 25,900 to 26,050, edging higher by around 0.2% at its peak as traders rotated into low-beta assets to hedge against erratic energy prices and macroeconomic strain. Solid footing in key constituents including Sun Pharma, Cipla, and Dr. Reddy’s shielded the space from steep corrections, enabling it to finish broadly steady and significantly outperform the hard-hit banking, FMCG, and technology sectors.
NIFTY DAILY CHART
The Nifty50 traded with negative bias and plunged by 0.90% and fell below the psychological level of 22,500 and settled the day at the mark of 22,316.85. RSI continued to move in the normal zone from the oversold zone to the mark of 34.04. Only sustained trading above the 22,500 level could push the index to 22,800 else, the index seems to be in a prolonged weak zone. But if the index falls below 22,250 could make the index weaker towards the mark 22,000.
