NIFTY INDEX DAILY REPORT

Nifty 50 faced persistent selling pressure starting the session lower breaching the key 24,100 level. The downturn was fueled amid subdued international market sentiment, rising crude oil benchmark. Index drifted lower through the morning with declining shares outpacing gainers by roughly 4 to 1. Severe drags across metal, information technology, and banking stocks weighed heavily on overall performance, though resilience in defensive plays and heavyweight gainers such as Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank, and select auto counters helped curb steeper losses. From a technical perspective, the 24,000–24,050 range serves as vital immediate support; if the index falls below the  mark of 24,000 the index can slip towards the mark of 23,800.

The Nifty Bank index navigated a volatile, range-bound trading session, opening slightly soft at 57,353.75 before dipping to an intraday low of 57,187.50 under pressure from broader market consolidation and elevated crude benchmarks, but managed to settle above the level of 58,000 at 58,024.The banking index managed to pare a portion of its early losses, supported by selective institutional accumulation in frontline private banking heavyweights like HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank. However, persistent profit-taking across state-owned lenders and mid-cap financial institutions capped any meaningful upward trajectory, keeping overall market breadth restrained.

Nifty FMCG Index closed out a sluggish month in a phase of valuation adjustment and range-bound trading. Hovering around the ₹46,800–₹47,000 mark, the benchmark remained nearly 20% down from its peak of 58,485.05, capping an August loss of roughly 4.2%. Sector movement was notably uneven following the Q1 FY27 financial results: heavyweights like ITC and Hindustan Unilever, which account for over 45% of the index’s weight, exerted downside pressure following weaker volume trajectory and squeezed operating margins, whereas standout quarterly performances from Nestlé India and Marico provided partial relief. Although near-term sentiment remains cautious, it reflects a notable discount against its 5-year average of  approx 42.1, leaving long-term valuations at more appealing entry levels for selective investors.

NIFTY DAILY CHART

The Nifty50 extended its losing streak for the fourth consecutive trading session, and Nifty failed to gain momentum and reach beyond 24,100. Further RSI is also seen slipping down and is currently near 42.75 thus showing pressure on the index. Further index has fallen below the mark of 15 EMA of 24,227. Thus the index to gain momentum must sustain above the 24,230 mark for further upside towards the mark of 24,500. Else fall below 24,000 would make the index come down to 23,800.

Equity Market Technical Analysis Snapshot: Aug 31st, 2026

NIFTY50:

Nifty opened around 24,117.55 and initially moved marginally higher to 24,128.70 before witnessing sharp selling pressure, declining to an intraday low of 23,993.60. The index recovered from lower levels and settled around 24,080.40, but remained below the key pivot level of 24,150. The trend continues to be bearish, with resistance placed at 24,250 and 24,330, while support is seen at 24,000 and 23,900. Nifty is trading below its 200-DMA, 30-DMA, and 11-DMA, reflecting continued technical weakness. RSI at 43.70 indicates subdued momentum, and a sustained break below 24,000 could trigger further downside.

BANKNIFTY:

Bank Nifty opened around 57,353.75 and initially remained range-bound before witnessing strong buying momentum, eventually settling higher around 58,024.95. The trend remains sideways, although the strong recovery has improved the short-term setup. Immediate resistance is placed at 58,500 and 58,900, while support is seen at 57,500 and 57,300. The index is trading above its 11-DMA, 30-DMA, and 200-DMA, maintaining a positive technical structure. RSI at 56.89 indicates healthy momentum, and sustained holding above 58,000 could support further upside toward the resistance zone.
